White Pines

Hello friends!

We get a lot of questions about White Pines due to how they look. White Pines in Ohio are a staple tree in landscaping and also sold as cut Christmas trees. This tree also is known for growing at a very rapid rate. Landscaping wise the straight trunk and feathery looking pine needles make it ideal to add into any design.

Pros for White Pines:
1. These are great trees for wind breaking and that evergreen look.
2. Growing them is fairly easy.
3. They can keep shape pretty well - they need sheared once a year typically doing July.

Cons for White Pines:
1. Weak limbs - during the winter they are known for breaking limbs due to ice and snow making things too heavy. It’s best to keep them away from driveways and homes.
2. Very messy trees - the needles fall and shed and it gets out of control.
3. Pollen and sap can be an issue.
